Royal Mail scores grand goal for Focus!

A kind-hearted team at the Royal Mail's Birmingham Mail Centre has scored a grand goal - by raising £1,000 for Focus Birmingham with the Lottery's Bonus Ball!

The Bonus Ball Fund was set up as a team building exercise by Royal Mail manager Bash Benning, who launched the scheme as part of the company's Action in the Community initiative in 1996. More than £10,000 has been raised for various charities over the past 13 years - including £4,000 for Focus Birmingham, since it was adopted as a Royal Mail charity in 2006.

Tony Bahia, fund treasurer, said: "We've had great fun collecting this money which involves staff picking a number in the Bonus Ball Lottery. We pay out half of the collected monies in winnings and the other half is what we collect for Focus Birmingham."

Tamara Bolger, Head of Fundraising at Focus Birmingham, said: "It's fantastic that the hard working staff at Royal Mail in Birmingham have chosen to support us in this way. Having fun with Focus Birmingham in mind is something we encourage other local businesses to do - having fun with no or little cost to raise money for a local cause."
