About Us

In 1846 Birmingham Royal Institute for the Blind (BRIB) came into being. In 1997 the operations of Queen Alexandra College, Focus Birmingham and the BRIB Housing Society were transferred to new charitable companies.

Since then Focus Birmingham has established itself as one of the key providers of special support, care, advice and guidance to those with visual impairment and other disabilities, including establishing residential care and day centre facilities, operating home visiting and rehabilitation services, community workers, social activities, transport and information resources.

Focus Birmingham is now a leading provider of specialist care, support, advice and training in all areas of sensory loss and disability. It has also established Focus Enterprises Ltd, a social enterprise, which delivers training, research, education and consultancy services across the UK and Europe. Focus Enterprises Ltd profits are gifted each year to the charity, to enable further services to develop and grow.
