What's on Blogs Focus Birmingham Safeguarding Adults Week 2025 Safeguarding Adults Week is an important date in our calendar, because many of the people we support with sight loss and complex needs rely on clear, accessible communication to let us know when something isn’t right. Ensuring people can recognise concerns, express themselves, and feel safe is central to the way we work. Throughout the week, our Complex Needs Day Service has focused on strengthening safeguarding in ways that everyone can access and understand. This has included: Teaching key Makaton signs linked to safety, giving people the confidence and language to speak up if something feels wrong. Training staff in the same signs, so teams can immediately recognise and respond when someone needs help. Using visual mood boards and prompts to support conversations about emotions, boundaries and safety. Creating space for open discussions about what “feeling safe” means to each individual. To finish the week, both staff and the people we support have written personal safeguarding pledges. These commitments will be displayed in our main corridor as a daily reminder that safeguarding is not just a policy – it is a shared culture. As a charity supporting some of Birmingham’s most vulnerable adults, this work is fundamental to helping people live life to the full, while ensuring their voices are heard and respected. If your organisation wants to make safeguarding more accessible for people with sensory or communication needs, we can help. We train our own teams – and we can train yours too.
